LA UTILIDAD COMO PRESUNTA RETORICA EN TEXTOS DE MATEMATICASAbstract
Se exponen las tesis de Katherine Neal sobre el carácter retórico de las afirmaciones de utilidad de las matemáticas. 2. Se recuerda y critica una tendencia hoy bastante generalizada de asumir ese carácter en los textos científicos. 3. Se presenta un texto de Abraham bar Hiyya y su influencia sobre el nacimiento de la matemática europea, 4. Se destaca el carácter básico de su geometría y las aplicaciones al arte de los agrimensores. 5. Se presentan algunos aportes significativos en dicha geometría. 6. Se insiste, con base en el caso presentado, en el papel genuinamente inductor de los problemas prácticos.
